CODE OF CONDUCT
LAST MODIFIED 10-31-2007Who We Are and How We Operate:
Culture and Respect within TheSecondRoad.com Community
Our goal is to create a safe environment for Members of TheSecondRoad.com ("TSR") in which they can communicate freely with each other and build a supportive community. Critical to this goal is the commitment by Members to respect each others' rights and feelings and to express themselves in a constructive way. Accordingly, we have established this Code of Conduct for Members of and visitors to TSR, which governs all activities on TSR including posting messages, pictures and other content on TSR and communicating with other Members. TSR's rules are set forth in our Terms of Use as well as this Code of Conduct.
WHEN YOU USE TSR, YOU ARE AGREEING TO ABIDE BY THIS CODE OF CONDUCT AND THE OTHER RULES SET FORTH IN OUR TERMS OF USE. FAILURE TO ADHERE TO THIS CODE OF CONDUCT OR TO THE TERMS OF USE MAY RESULT IN THE TERMINATION OF YOUR ACCOUNT AND THE DELETION OF CONTENT THAT YOU HAVE POSTED WITHIN TSR WITH OR WITHOUT NOTICE, AS DETERMINED BY TSR IN ITS OWN DISCRETION. TSR ALSO RESERVES THE RIGHT TO SEEK ANY OTHER REMEDIES AVAILABLE AS DEEMED APPROPRIATE BY TSR.
12 Step Programs, Recovery and TSR
We encourage diverse opinions about what constitutes 'recovery' and appropriate treatment of addiction. We are open to different methods of treatment and recovery and do not endorse any method over any other. Our goal is to foster discussion and communication among Members about their own recoveries and experiences and to recognize that there are many different paths to recovery.
We are not affiliated with any 12 Step organizations, although at this time, many of our Members are affiliated with such organizations.
Some individuals in 12 Step anonymous organizations are uncomfortable with Members mentioning any affiliation with the applicable organizations, even the mention of sponsorship.
Other Members may believe that the 12 Step programs and Traditions merely require Members not to name the particular group with which they are affiliated.
Some Members may believe that recovery means absolutely no use of drugs of any kind, including anti-depressants or medicine associated with treating addictions.
Other Members may feel that they can drink occasionally as long as they never use the substance that they were primarily addicted to.
We leave all of these decisions to you, but request that even if your opinion differs from those of other Members, you express yourself in a constructive manner that respects the fact that there may be a diversity of "right" answers.
Monitoring and Rules for TSR community's comfort and security. Please also read our Terms of Use and Privacy Policy for further detailsAll Members must THINK before they post or share thoughts, feelings, personal information or experience in a forum that is available to other Members or to the general public. You should not post anything in these areas that you would not be comfortable sharing publicly in an offline environment. We have built TSR to enable Members to edit any content that they have posted; however, there are no "take-backs". Once you have made public your content or information, TSR cannot be held responsible for who sees it or how it is used by others.
We do not tolerate 'flaming' (being disrespectful of others' comments or being inflammatory), but we encourage our Members to express diverse opinions and, where appropriate, to engage in vigorous, yet respectful, debate.
Members and visitors may not post or share content that is unlawful or harmful in any way including any content that:
is obscene, pornographic or sexually explicit
depicts graphic or gratuitous violence
makes threats of any kind that intimidate, harass or bully anyone
is derogatory, demeaning, malicious, racist, defamatory, abusive, offensive or hateful
violates any local, state or federal law or provides instructions for a criminal offense
allows you to impersonate any person or entity or otherwise misrepresent yourself, your age or your affiliation
includes any personally identifiable information of any third party
contains software viruses or any other computer code, files or programs designed to interrupt, destroy or limit the functionality of any computer software or hardware or telecommunications equipment
solicits passwords or personal information from anyone
markets third party products or services to Members or otherwise attempts to use TSR for commercial purposes
attempts to induce other Members into using or purchasing drugs (legal or illegal), alcohol or controlled substances of any kind
You may not engage in fraudulent, infringing or harmful conduct including, without limitation:
registering for more than one account
using or attempting to use another person's account, service or system without authorization
creating a false identity on the TSR site
posting any content other than original content created by you
posting any content that infringes upon or violates the copyrights, trademarks or other rights of any third party
attempting to circumvent any content filtering techniques used by TSR
Any conduct that is predatory or that constitutes stalking is wholly unacceptable and will result in immediate termination of your account. If appropriate in TSR's sole discretion, this type of conduct may be reported by TSR to law enforcement officials.
We monitor posts daily, but we encourage our Members to 'flag' posts that do not comply with the Code of Conduct or Terms of Use of TSR either by clicking on an "abuse" button or by e-mailing us at abuse@secondroad.org. Each Member who reports abusive conduct must explain why he or she believes the conduct violates the Code of Conduct and/or Terms of Use, and TSR will determine whether or not to remove the content at issue. If the Member who posted the content at issue is flagged again, TSR will contact that Member and determine the appropriate course of action with respect to that Member. If a Member receives three or more flags that TSR, in its discretion deems to be legitimate, TSR will terminate or suspend that Member's account. Please keep in mind that only content or conduct that legitimately violates the Code of Conduct or Terms of Use may be flagged - content that a Member simply disagrees with or finds distasteful does not, without more, qualify as violative under this standard. If TSR determines that a Member who flags content repeatedly does so without a reasonable basis, TSR reserves the right to terminate the account of the Member who engaged in such baseless flagging.
